Check-Up

Ashland had his 1 year check-up today (a little late I know…). And he’s doing really well! He’s even gotten bigger slightly beyond his own growth curve. The doctor was impressed with all the things he learned to do: walking (running more like!), stacking 5 blocks, saying some words (his favorite lately is “all done”). He hated having his ears checked and vaccinated. He was so upset that he had tears streaming down his cheeks, which I hardly ever see since he almost never cries :(

It’s sort of become our unwritten tradition to go get coffee and bagel at Java Mama, a coffee house near the pediatrician’s office after appointments…but we got there only to find it closed (probably permanently!). This was such a shock to us since we’ve known the owner (he’s really nice) and it’s the first coffee house we ever found in Portland when we moved! Anyhow, we drove further and ended up at Tea Thyme and Lavender for afternoon tea. By this time though Ashland fell fast asleep and spent the entire tea time not having treats.

Geeking

Ashland is looking stuff up on google. “3211AzzAAQZZZaaΩ” to be exact. He LOVES computers. Luckily for him, I don’t mind him banging on this laptop since it’s nearly broken anyways.

Ashland had a 6 month checkup this Monday. He is doing very well. Here’s his stats.

Hight: 27″ (60%)

Weight: 15lb 14oz (10%)

Head: 17.2″ (45%)

4 Month!

Ashland turned 4 month old yesterday! …and he had his wellness check-up today! He is doing very well, except of course, his weight dipped in the growth curve, just like his sister’s did. Our new doctor here in the area is really nice though, and we like him a whole lot (and he seems much more sensible about the weight issue than our pediatrician in NoVA). Anyway, Ashland will go in for another weight check in about 2 weeks to make sure he is gaining wieght and not loosing them. I can’t remember the exact measurement but he is now 50 percentile in height, 10 percentile in weight, and 10 percentile in head circumference.

He got minor fever from the vaccine and slept most of the day, except for this brief moment when he was happily playing in the bouncy. He enjoys reaching out and grabbing things and making the little wheels turn. He doesn’t like the blinky lights and music though (which his sister keeps turning it on for him!). I’ve noticed that Ashland has a very sane level of tolerance for annoying lights and sounds (about as much as adults — not much!) which is a stark contrast from his sister who loves blinky lights and electronicky sounds and seems to believe that lounder IS better…

2 Month Old

Ashland is now 2 month old, and he had a health check-up today! He is looking (with great interest!) at the various instruments that are hanging from the wall by the exam table. He is now 23.5 inches tall, weighs 11lb & 6.5oz, and has head circumference of 15.25 inches. (…which makes him — compared to other babies who happen to be part of the statistics — tall and medium build with a smallish head :D )

appointment

Unlike at the previous check-ups Ashland is very happy to be naked (he didn’t want to be unswaddled before) which made the exam a lot easier. He seems to enjoy being naked lately and he gets happy every time I take his clothes off (maybe he thinks it’s a bath time?).

appointment2

I caught him smiling on camera for the first time! He seems to think that flash on the camera is funny, and it made him smile! The 2 bandaids are from when he got the vaccines.

appointment3

At 2-month, Ashland has learned to rollover, grab objects, follow movement with his eyes, scoots quite fast on his back,  has strong enough neck to be able to sit with support and bear his body weight on his legs. He has good eye contact, smiles often, coos a lot and seems to enjoy listening to music and watching everything around him.

Checkup

Ashland had a 5-day checkup today. He now weighs 7lb 6 oz, almost back to his birth weight. He appears to be doing so well that the doctor commented on his tongue which, according to her, is a ‘bit short’. Anyway, we thought it was funny that doctors just have to find at least one thing ‘wrong’:) …in her defense ankyloglossia could be a problem if he had trouble eating, but he manages just fine.

5days

Day 2

Ashland’s pediatrician who came to check-up on him and just left. She said that he is doing very well. There was still some concern regarding dilated bowel in the prenatal sonogram, but he pooped just fine by 3 am, assuring us that everything is is working order.

secondday

Here’s the lunch I was served.

lunch

…and then dinner. (They taste far worse than they look if you can imagine that!)

dinner

Ashland’s sister came to visit around dinner time. She didn’t want much to do with him though. Hopefully she’ll warm up to him soon.
