Ashland took his first three steps this morning! He was standing at the edge of the entertainment center shelf and he wanted to go over to the gate, so he stepped off took three steps and then power crawled the rest of the way. Won’t be long now until he will be walking and running!
Ashland decided that the duckie makes a quite decent pacifier.
Watching Ashland, I can tell that he is about to have a break through in development. He is almost walking (getting good at standing, took one step! …but it’s not really walking until he takes 2 or more steps right!?). We hear him imitating words (Todd said “I love you little guy!” and Ashland said “Guy!”). He tries to imitate music too, he was trying to sing the beats to a music, and when I showed him some latin rhythm with toy percussion — he almost got it! He also started to point at things. And unfortunately for me, he got really good at climbing (he can climb up onto things more than 1/2 as tall as he is with ease!).
Ashland now sticks his tongue out if you would! Remember his pediatrician diagnosed him with “short tongue” and told us we can have it surgically corrected? Well, I think that his tongue is just fine the way it is
Ashland also stood up unassisted for few moments several times today. The first time it happened, I was getting him ready for a bath and he stood up to grab a bottle of lotion off the shelf, lifted it up, and seem to have not notice he was free standing!
Ashland soaking up sunshine and being sleepy at the park.
On a developmental note…Ashland learned to give kitties kisses (leans over, buries his face in the fur and drool into it!). Also, Ashland now has feeling that can be hurt by being told “No.”
When we say “no”, he stops what he is doing and makes a *sad* face. Then he’ll usually proceed with the bad activity and then when we say “No!” again a little louder — it makes him cry!
Today Ashland’s second tooth came in and now he has two front teeth on the bottom. He has been all screech-owly all day, clearly the tooth is bothering him a bit. He can really roar quite loud for being such a tiny little lion. Ash will probably be a rock singer or something because he likes to vocalize a lot and scream in his own style. Making teeth is not all that much fun, it’s a big job for a big dude. We’ve been really busy but has the ligers!
This morning I woke up to a growling little liger standing at the edge of his crib. I walked over give him good morning kisses. After I gave him three kisses on his head Ashland looked up at me and said -
“DA-DA!”
It is his second word ever! His first was “MA-MA” of course, because he loves his Mama so much. It was the perfect start to my day and Ashland is always such a happy little guy to be around.
Ashland spends quite large portion of the day standing like this. He’s gotten quite confident at it, and can let go of one hand or look around. He also just figured out how to crab walk while holding on to the edge of something.
Ashland is now 7.5-ish month old! I see a sudden development going on in his ability to think and understand about the world that surrounds him. He is infinitely curious about learning how things work and what they do!
He is growing up to be a sweet person who loves kitties and adores his sister. Immi makes him laugh more than anyone/thing else! I see him chasing her around hoping that she’d play with him.
Ashland is now really really mobile! He does combination style crawling (alligator crawl, classic crawl, bear crawl) and can move about quite fast, but I think that he really wants to walk, and I see him trying hard to accomplish this. He can grab on to things to stand up, and at this point, he can sit unassisted very well.
He LOVES computers more than anything else. It’s a major motivator to get him to stand, crawl, and even climb.
Of course he gets hurt sometimes from falling or his toy moving in unexpected way. And when I pick him up because he is upset, he clings on to me with his little [sticky!] hands and leans his head, it’s really cute, it’s almost worth him getting hurt…almost!
Ashland seems to always know where I am, even if he can’t see me and will come find me. He now says “mama!” when he wants me or on a mission to come find me. All this cuteness is a good thing because he’s been totally high-maintenance, always on the move!
Ashland sleeps quite well most of the nights. He sleeps through the night often, and when he does wake up, he usually goes back to sleep quite quickly.
He has a very hearty appetite! He has weaned himself off completely this past week (he wouldn’t have minded at all if I stopped nursing him a month or two ago!) and now devours $30 worth of organic formula EVERY WEEK :O And this doesn’t even include other baby food he now eats. Seriously, I wish he’d nursed a bit longer but admittedly, it’s a lot easier for me this way.
Ashland reached a stage in which he seems to think that everything in the world is for him to grab! Ashland is pulling the straw in and out of the cup.
Ashland is getting really mobile. He can scoot/roll quite fast and make a 90 degree turn in one swift motion. He is really close to crawling and he can get up on his 4s easily. Today, while he was practicing his crawling skills (with his hands and knees on the floor) and trying to figure out the alternating left&right issue, he kicked off with both of his legs with so much force that he leapt like a frog into the air and smashed into his face
Here’s Ashland doing push ups! It’s a bit unclear in the photo but he is completely off the ground except for his toes and hands. I don’t think that I ever saw immi do this at any point… Never mind his uni-sox-ness: he always takes off one of his socks, I don’t know why.
