Move-in Day

The movers (after much trouble — I won’t talk about it here, but completely unbelievable experience! …hence delays in replying your messages and updating blogs etc. etc. I’m really sorry I’ve been so out of touch!) finally came to our door at 8:30 pm (not a typo, I really do mean at night). Ashland, being the “most convenient baby ever”, hungout quite happily in his box stationed in the kitchen between fridge and pantry.

The movers were here until past 4:00 am! Anyway, Ashland wanted to be wrapped up in his blancket, and then slept most of the night.

By an amazing luck, I managed to locate the bassinet/playpen immediately! Here’s Ashland waking up in the morning. He seems very very happy in the playpen: he probably thinks that it’s a 5-star accommodation after having been in a box for so long:D

Too Small

Ashland seems to be going through anther growth spurt. His suitcase is suddenly too small! I need to find him  a bigger box until the moving trucks gets here with his crib. I’m grateful that we’ve moved before he started crawling though — that, would have been tragic :D

Suitcase

Moving truck is delayed. In fact, it probably won’t get here for another while. So we’ve been living out of suitcase and as for Ashland — living in the suitcase.

Airport

It’s finally our moving day to Portland! It’s a logistical challenge moving with kids and cats and lots of stuff we wanted to keep (books, musical instruments, computers…). We ended up deciding on shipping the car, hiring moving company, taking airplane, having kitties go cargo than picked up at destination and checked into pet-hotel. We are trying to check in kitties at the airport now, it’s taking them about 2 hours to go through 2 people before us:| Ashland was very happy in the sling, but started grumbling because he is getting hungry (and so are the rest of us!).

It’s Ashland and his sister’s first flight ever. Ashland being the most-convenient-baby-ever (it’s practically his nickname!) just ate some and then slept through the entire flight until I woke him up to feed him for landing (to help with ear pressure), and then during the check-out process, he was very happy looking around (I tried putting him forward facing for the first time) in the sling. Admittedly, his sister was a bit more high maintenance, but nothing disastrous.

We checked into the hotel, and Ashland is hanging out on the bed.

Moving

We don’t have too many days left here: movers are coming to get our stuff on the 7th and we’ll be flying out mid October. The dragon marionette has been suspending from above Ashland’s crib, I see Ashland gazing at it all the time and it makes him smile when I push it a bit to make it spin. (I feel a bit badly putting away things Ashland seems to enjoy and pretty soon, we’ll have to pack up his crib too.) This is a 5th time the dragon is packed up for a move (Thailand -> Boston MA -> Hanover NH -> Cville VA -> Reston VA -> Portland OR) and somehow he’s grown on me over the years.
